Minimize The Rio Grande

This colourful image of the famous Rio Grande in Texas, United States was acquired by Flock-1 on 4 August 2016.

The river snakes through a complex system of wetlands before emptying in the Gulf of Mexico. It also acts as a natural border between the southernmost tip of Texas (north of the river) from the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico (south of the river).

Since 1848, the Rio Grande has marked the boundary between Mexico and the United States from the twin cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez.

The Rio Grande is 1,896 miles long and it originates in the shadow of Canby Mountain (part of the San Juan Mountain) in Colorado, where it joins with other streams that also form near the Continental Divide.

On its long and flowing journey to the sea, the river flows through New Mexico and Texas before forming the natural border with Mexico.
