Clear eye of Super Typhoon Vongfong
This image from MetOp-B clearly shows a distinct eye on 8 October 00:30 UTC, as Super Typhoon Vongfong was travelling across the Pacific towards Japan. The typhoon was reported to have maximum sustained wind speeds of 287 km/h (155 KT), with gusts of 352 km/h (190 KT). It is the fifth Super Typhoon of the 2014 season. View the full resolution image.
