Autumn in the Patagonian Andes
The Patagonian Andes are pictured in this Flock-1 image, acquired on 29 April 2015.
Situated in the southernmost part of South America, Patagonia is located in southern Argentina and Chile. The region hosts steppe-like plains and deserts, making it less populated than the more vegetated, warmer regions to the north.
The region is also home to part of the Andes Mountains, a portion of which can be seen in this image. The Andes range across the west coast of South America and through seven separate countries.
In these glacial valleys, foliage colour bleeds from a rusty orange near the tree line to a deep green on the valley floor. Cooler fall temperatures, varying sun exposure, and diverse flora account for this striking colour gradation.
